40 years ago today Dr. King was assassinated. In our high tech information age, I was struck by how little we have heard his voice since then. It’s one thing to talk about him; it’s another to hear it in his own words. That is an opportunity we have today, and I urge you to take some time today to listen to the man who has inspired so much in his life and his death. Aside from his self sacrifice and potent words, I was most touched by the coverage from his funeral, when his voice is played overhead…

John McCain has expressed “regret” for not supporting (and in fact opposing) the national holiday which honors the life, work and legacy of Dr. King.
Ultimately it’s not about the holiday…it’s about everything that came before that. It’s American history, but McCain didn’t think it was relevant. Typical.

Memphis was a place none of them expected to be on April 4, 1968. A garbage strike diverted them to Tennessee, away from their planned trip to the nation’s capitol to lobby Congress for a poor people’s bill of rights.
